SoKY’s Choice: County Fair shows off lots of small-community ‘Hart’
MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. (WNKY) – The sweet scent of funnel cakes and the roar of four-wheelers filled the air as the Hart County Fair wrapped up on Saturday, July 5, but the memories made there still linger in the small Kentucky town.
Three generations of the Dunagan family made the trip together, including Grace, her grandson, and great-grandson Mateo.
“That was something we look forward to every year growing up,” Grace said, watching the next generation laugh through the carnival haze.
Down on the dirt track, Heather Cleaver, owner of KOI Drag Racing, was gearing up for a crowd favorite, side-by-side sprints that rattled the grandstands.
“We run everything from, like, kids’ four-wheelers, dirt bikes, all the way up to, like, diesel trucks,” Cleaver said. “We’re on 200 feet, make it a little bit shorter, safer for everybody.”
Fair veterans Maddox Gower and Gavin Clymer said the annual event has become a summer must.
“Just to see my friends. That’s the best part about it,” Clymer said.
“All the people are nice. All the games are easy. Yeah, the food’s bangin’. The rides are pretty fun too,” added Gower.
Attendee Kimberly Angell was sold on the experience.
“It’s actually quite the experience,” she said.
“The rides, the food, the ice cream, the games…you know, the people.”
The fair may only last a week, but for Hart County locals, it’s a lasting highlight of the year. And if the turnout is any indication, the countdown to next July has already begun.
