SoKY Fair celebrating over 70 years of old and new memories

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Friday and Saturday nights wrap up the 2022 SOKY Fair – a fair that’s been a bright spot in Bowling Green for decades and decades.

Families and friends have enjoyed the Southern Kentucky Fair for over 70 years- a huge staple, especially in its more humble beginnings, for the region’s agricultural folks.

SOKY Fair Board President Jim Maroney has volunteered at the fair for over three decades now. He recalled how the fair had one of the most renowned horse shows in the U.S. back in the 40s, 50s and 60s.

Maroney said even further back when, the Southern Kentucky Fair started up in the early 40s off of Fairview Avenue right around where the McDonalds and Wendy’s stand now.

He says all these good times have lead up to an even more successful present.

“It’s a heartwarming feeling when you say, ‘Hey we get to do this,'” said Maroney.
