Smoking rates fall while HPV vaccine rates stall
The US has made some progress in the fight against some cancers, but prevention for others isn’t increasing. According to a report in the Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Journal, the percentage of smokers dropped from 14% to 11%.
But there are concerns about cervical cancer. HPV vaccines can stunt cervical cancer-causing infections but vaccine rates have remained static over the past few years. The American Cancer Society stresses staying current on all types of cancer screenings can potentially be the difference between life and death.
