BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Warren County man is facing several charges after a motorcycle pursuit in Bowling Green on Saturday.

According to a uniform citation, the Kentucky State Police saw a motorcycle traveling on Interstate 165 north with no taillight.

Troopers say they tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the motorcycle began to speed after it initially slowed down.

Authorities say the operator reached speeds of up to 75 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. Eventually, troopers say the motorcycle ran a stop light before entering another street and nearly struck a vehicle in the oncoming lane.

According to troopers, the motorcycle continued to flee, almost leaving the road several times.

The motorcycle was traveling on Rock Creek Drive when it hit grass on the side of the road, which caused the operator to lose control, authorities say.

Troopers say the operator, later identified as 38-year-old Steven Dye of Smiths Grove, did not follow commands to stay on the ground and was placed back on the ground before being placed into custody.

During a search, authorities say they found a large amount of money and a digital scale with white residue, along with around 7 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, a pill bottle with unknown pills, a handgun, multiple digital scales, cell phones, loaded magazines and suspected marijuana.

Troopers say they also learned the motorcycle was reported stolen.

Dye remains at the Warren County Regional Jail on several charges, including speeding 26 mph or greater over the speed limit, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second or greater offense (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine), receiving stolen property between $1,000 and $10,000, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, reckless driving, drug paraphernalia – deliver/manufacture, operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or a substance, first offense, improperly on left side of road, second-degree possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, disregarding a stop sign, disregarding a traffic control device – traffic light, display of illegal/altered registration plate, failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance/security, first-degree wanton endangerment and no tail lamps.
