Small businesses still need consumer attention this year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It is easy to get on Amazon or Walmart online to go shopping, but have you thought about shopping local for Cyber Monday?

Small businesses in the area are participating in the sales and deals of Cyber Monday and shopping local continues to be extremely important for the survival of small businesses in the area.

Local business owners like Payton Wardlow says it’s important to pay attention and build relationships with local businesses and the community.

He said these past 18 months with COVID have been hard for small business.

“You hate to see these businesses closed down due to unforeseen circumstances and things out of our control. So if you do build relationships with those store owners, and I build relationships with my customers, it’s just a support factor. You’re helping them do what they love and ultimately keep bills paid and keep the doors open and the lights on,” said Wardlow.

Many small businesses in the area are also participating in Cyber Monday deals, like Wardlow’s other small business, Birdie Bundle.

“It’s one of those subscription box concepts and on Cyber Monday, and really all throughout the holidays, we offer a really good deal and discounts on prepaid boxes. So, it gets really busy this time of year and we’re packing a lot of boxes,” said Wardlow.

With hopes of increasing people’s focus on those local businesses, Independence Bank is hosting a game of small business Bingo for the public to participate in.

“They are truly the backbone our community. And it’s important for us to go in and establish those relationships and try to get people out of their homes and off the couches and away from their iPads and really to go walk through these doors and meet these people that have these businesses and say ‘Thank you,’ for still being open and say ‘Thank you’ for continuing to try to still survive in this environment,” says Brad Howard, the president of the Warren County Independence Banks.

You can pick up a Bingo card at Independence Bank in Bowling Green or at the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce.

After visiting businesses on the card and getting “Bingo”, you can drop your card off at one of their locations or the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce.
