(CNN) – Fresh slivered onions used on McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers appear to be the likely source of a recent E. coli outbreak.

That’s according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday.

Last week, supplier Taylor Farms issued a recall of some of its onion products because of a potential contamination.

The E. coli outbreak is tied to one death and dozens of others getting sick in more than a dozen states. A full map of the affected states can be found here.

The CDC calls the current risk to the overall public “very low.”

Officials say the infections were reported before the affected onions were removed from restaurants, including McDonald’s.

The agency says it’s unlikely recalled onions were distributed to grocery stores.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says diced onions used at McDonald’s have not been linked to the E. coli outbreak.
