SKyPAC offering virtual exhibits

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center, provides Bowling Green with countless performances and shows. However, Covid-19 has now taken the spotlight, forcing SKYPAC to close the curtains to large gatherings.

“Like so many people right now, SKyPAC is really just trying to adapt and evolve. Unfortunately, we’re limited on being able to allow people into the building,” said Rob Hankins, The SKyPAC vice president and chief of external affairs.

That hasn’t stopped the theater from using the digital age to its advantage. Some art exhibits have gone virtual, to allow art lovers to still take it all in.

“I’m so thrilled that we are the only program that could continue at the SKyPAC. I’m thrilled because our artists in the area deserve to be seen,” said The SKyPAC exhibit curator Andee Rudloff.

The online exhibits are free for anyone to check out, but as a non-profit organization, staff say they hope these exhibits encourage viewers to donate and keep the program afloat.

“SKyPAC is very much a non-profit 501c3 organization. As such, we’re always looking for funds,” Hankins said.

Hankins said even a small amount goes a long way.

“Those can be simple $5 or $10 gifts. That allows us to keep doing what we’re doing and maintain that for the community,” Hankins said.

While the online experience started due to Covid-19, there’s been a plus side to having the exhibit online.

“What’s been really cool is to see not just people in Kentucky, but also all over the world. I think we’ll continue to do it,” Rudloff said.

Staff said they’re even more thrilled to welcome everyone back in when the time comes.

“We cannot wait for people to see these exhibitions. I think they’re really going to be something people engage in,” Rudloff said.
