SKYCTC welcomes 300+ HOSA regional competitors

High enrollment sparks optimism for healthcare future

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Students from 14 SOKY high schools strengthened their healthcare and leadership skills today thanks to Southern Kentucky Community & Technical College

Wednesday, SKYCTC welcomed over 300 registered competitors to their HOSA regional championship.

Participants got the opportunity to see SKYCTC’s healthcare department to local hospital representatives.

SKYCTC says more Kentucky high school students like these are joining HOSA, and this year there are almost double the participants compared to the last pre-covid regional competition.

SKYCTC Dean of Allied Health & Nursing Angie Harlan said, “There has been the fear of people not going into healthcare anymore, so to see this excitement… That’s the whole purpose for a lot of these events is to get these kids in here and let them see, ‘Is this something I would be interested in?’ So they’ve seen radiography, Surgical Technology, respiratory therapy, and nursing today.”

SKYCTC will see many of these kids again in Louisville at the HOSA state competition next spring.
