SKYCTC hosts entrepreneurial summit on campus

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College held an entrepreneurial summit on Friday at its campus.

The event was titled “You are the Future – Dream, Build and Grow.” Students, faculty, staff and the community gathered to share experiences in creating and running businesses.

Participants got a chance to connect to local entrepreneurs and build their social networks. The topics for discussion included everything business related.

Heather LaRue, retention and resource coordinator at SKYCTC, said, “The Small Business Development Center coming, just to talk to us about how to start a business in Kentucky and how to build a business plan. Then it went to funding and the ways of funding, how you can fund, who you need to reach out to. Then it went to branding and the importance of telling your story and connecting to consumers.”

Mason McDonald, business administration major at SKYCTC, said, “There was so much learning and inspiration that happened here today. I think a lot of people are going to take this home, and maybe people that weren’t going to start businesses are going to, you know, it gave them a lot of resources. It gave them a lot of inspiration. It gave them a lot of tools.”

The day ended with a “Shark Tank” style competition where groups of students came up with a business plan and presented it. They were questioned by local business leaders, who scored them to determine a winner.
