SKYCTC honors first graduating class of Medical Laboratory Technology Program

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College graduates are celebrating a milestone achievement following their pinning ceremony as the first graduating class of its Medical Laboratory Technology program.
According to a release by SKYCTC, their MLT program gives students the academic and applied science education required to become medical laboratory professionals.
SKYCTC says these professionals “play a vital role in the healthcare system,” with graduates trained to analyze a variety of tests, including for immunohematology, microbiology, hematology, chemistry and more.
The MLT program operates in partnership with West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah, which college officials say addresses the growing need for qualified medical lab technicians for local healthcare facilities.
The release says all 11 graduates signed a “Going Pro” commitment of employment with one of four area employers: Cumberland County Hospital, Graves Gilbert Clinic, Med Center Health and T.J. Regional Health.
MLT program coordinator Dr. Bridget Ledford Waters encouraged the graduates to continue their dedication to raising awareness of the profession and fulfilling their commitment to the field.
Congratulations to this year’s MLT program graduates: Angel Blankenship, Caitlyn Durham, Dawson Deel, Claire Eaton, Mailey Ford, Hannah Griffin, Hayley Miller, Victoria Newland, Meghan Walz, Megan Word and Kadie Whitson.
