Six Purples at Bowling Green High School sign national letters of intent
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Wednesday afternoon at Bowling Green High School, six Purples athletes signed their national letter of intent to officially join the collegiate level.
Two seniors will be heading to Lindsey Wilson College next year in Henderson Wiggins and Trevor Huff.
Henderson shined on the soccer field as BG’s goalkeeper this season, allowing just five goals through 20 games during his senior year.
Joining Wiggins as a Blue Raider is Huff, who served as captain of the bowling team for five seasons.
On the football side, wide receiver CJ Sweeney will be taking his talents to Kentucky Wesleyan in the fall, and lineman Anthony Pointer is heading to Barbourville, Kentucky, to play at Union College.
After the signing, Sweeney and Pointer spoke on the impact that the Bowling Green coaching staff has had on their careers.
“ I worked hard for this,” Sweeney said. “Coach Spader mentioned how I stayed in his office a lot and I was battling a lot of stuff, but I’m glad that the coaching staff I got helped me and matured into the man I am today. I’m going to go there (KWC) and work hard and try to get to the next level.”
Pointer also agreed that when it came to life off the field, the coaching staff was just as involved and caring.
“They taught me about responsibility and real life,” Pointer said. “The coaches are really good with giving advice, so if I need advice, I go to them.”
Two Lady Purples who also celebrated their signing day on Wednesday are a pair of cheerleading teammates in Mogie Bradley and Adelyn Drane.
While Bradley will be continuing her career in cheerleading as a Lady Topper at WKU, Drane will be putting all of her focus into her soccer career as a Phoenix at Cumberland University.
Winning multiple region titles with the Lady Purples, Drane will always cherish the memories she made at Bowling Green.
“ It’s really special that I’ve been a part of such great programs,” Drane said. “It’s going to be hard to let go, but I feel like I am pretty prepared for the next chapter because of it. I’m just really thankful for the opportunities I’ve gotten because of it.”
