Singer, songwriter John Prine honored at John Prine Memorial Park

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. – Over at the border of Butler and Muhlenberg County, fans of singer and songwriter John Prine gathered to celebrate his life.

Sunday, April 7 marked the fourth anniversary of Prine’s death.

To honor him, fans gathered at John Prine Park to share their favorite stories and sing the songs of the country legend.

Four years later, they still remember the impact he had made on their lives.

“As I grew older, I can to appreciate his music much more, his very unique way of understanding humanity and doing it with humor, no matter the emotion he was singing about,” says Josh Givens, secretary of Friends of John Prine Park Committee. “He was just a treasure to the human race I feel like.”

Many still appreciate Prine for his attitude and humbleness after he made it big.

His connection to the everyday person resonated with much of the crowd.

“John was a person who was about every man. He was a veteran, and he carried the mail, he worked hard to get where he was. And even though he gained notoriety and fame for his music, he stayed very down to earth and humble about it. He cared about people that were just like him, ultimately, and he understood that fairness, equality and justice to people was very important. ”

For any John Prine fans that could not make it out this time, don’t worry – the committee is planning an even bigger birthday celebration in October.
