Sharon Lee Dockins gears up for the State Games to go for the gold again
LOGAN COUNTY, KY.- Sharon Lee Dockins, the Special Olympic gold medalist has been working towards her goals since she was nine years old. She got the gold last year with the help of her solid support system.
Lee told us “With my coaches, I make them proud, and I put them first, and gymnastics is important to me. It just makes me feel happy. And I worked hard and never gave up, so I feel pretty amazing about myself.”
With her hard work and dedication she reached levels that no one in Kentucky could have imagined. Her coach and the owner of the Logan County Gymnastics Center, Polly Porter says, “We knew she was the best in Kentucky. She had, you know, had some competition in Kentucky, but she still was always the best. And when we went to Iowa, she was the only woman there that could compete on the hardest level of every event.”
Polly also compares Lee and her work ethic to Michael Jordan, and she says, “Lee takes it to the next level.”
Lee is literally doing leaps and bounds, soaring to heights she’s worked so hard for. Lee’s journey is not even close to being over, the Olympian is continuing to compete and perform to do what makes her happy. Her next competition is this June, at the State Games in Richmond.
