Sharks invade Logan County Library

Hundreds of miles from the Atlantic coast, some sharks were seen in South Central Kentucky on Tuesday.

Fortunately, these sharks were in an aquarium at the Logan Library in Russellville. The Newport Aquarium’s traveling Shark Cart program stopped by the library to educate kids on the marine animals. Two live sharks were on display for the kids to see and even touch. More than 100 children attended the free event.

"There are a lot of misconceptions about sharks," said Sarah Wainescott, with the Newport Aquarium. "One misconception is that they eat people. A lot of people also don’t know that sharks are threatened out in the wild. It’s important for us to teach them those cool, fun facts about sharks so they are more educated and gives them the power to help sharks."

The aquarium’s mobile shark cart is the only one in the entire country.
