Shanti Niketan Hospice Home reaches $3.5 million campaign goal

BOWLING GREEN, Ky – Recently, the T.J. Community Mission Foundation (TJCMF) announced that their campaign on building the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home had been completed, on the building’s 5-year anniversary.
The campaign, “Love Makes This House a Home”, was launched in 2015, and its goal was to reach $3.5 million so they could begin giving families in the South Central region of Kentucky the hospice facilities and care they need. Since the facility’s opening in 2021, the home has been able to serve and care for nearly 300 patients and families.
CEO of T.J Regional Health, Neil Thornbury, said “For five years, families in our region have experienced extraordinary end-of-life care in a setting that honors dignity, comfort, and the presence of loved ones.”. “Shanti Niketan Hospice Home reflects the very best of compassionate healthcare.”
At the anniversary event for the facility, Randy Burns, Executive Director of TJCMF, announced that the final commitment needed to complete the campaign’s debt had been secured.
“With a final gift commitment of $70,245 made within the past two weeks, we are thrilled to announce that the campaign to build Shanti Niketan Hospice Home is now complete,” Burns said. “This home stands as a testament to the compassion and generosity of an entire community.”
The $3.5 million goal was met due to generous community donations and a $2 million USDA loan secured through a partnership with Farmers RECC. This allowed construction of the building to start in late 2019 and into the winter of 2020.
For almost a decade, over 1,200 individuals, families, businesses and T.J. Regional Health employees helped complete the campaign.
A partnership between T.J. Regional Health and the T.J. Community Mission Foundation has allowed the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home to be a space where an experienced hospice care team can provide a peaceful and home feeling to not only its patients but to their families too.
Although the campaign has been completed, Burns states that they now shift their focus to establishing long-term sustainability and patient assistance for those in need.
The name Shanti Niketan originated from Sanskrit, which means “a place for peace,” and for families at home, the facility is exactly that.
