Severe Weather Week: Know the risk and have a plan

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – March 1-7 is severe weather week, signaling the coming of spring and usually a storm or two.

As March rolls in, so do more intense weather systems. The seasons changing tends to bring air masses of differing temperatures together creating conditions favorable for anything from rain storms to tornadoes. Being that this is the case around the nation, News 40 spoke to two officials about the pre-stages of spring, as well as how to prepare. Meteorologist Darius Mack says spring can be a time of uncertainty and recalls March 3rd of 2023, where straight line winds cut through the area leaving behind a lot of messes.

Mack said it’s important to have a plan just in case severe weather does occur, detailing where you should be and what to have with you. Warren County Emergency Management’s Travis Puckett tells News 40 the same, and told us a couple of places to look for help. Puckett said people can look at ready.gov or weather.gov for an idea of what to carry in a preparedness kit and said shelter is most important. EMS works alongside Warren County’s Parks & Rec department to operate tornado shelters in all the Warren County parks.
