Several Memorial Day service events to take place

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Before Memorial Day Monday, there are several upcoming ways to honor those who gave it all to serve this nation.

Normally, a Memorial Day service would be observed at the American Legion Post 23 in Bowling Green, but that service isn’t taking place due to Covid restrictions.  Even so, there are plenty of ways to honor the fallen on Saturday.

At 8 a.m., the Foxtrot Forward spirit ride line up will be at Doug’s Motor City, and the rollout will be at 10 a.m.. There will also be two wreath layings. One for Lieutenant Rob Henderson at the Bowling Green VFW post, and another for Staff Sergeant Brock A. Beery at the veteran’s cemetery. Those will be at 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.

Jim Manley from American Legion Post 23 emphasizes the importance of paying respects to those who served and are no longer with us.

“Memorial Day is the day that we recognize the folks that paid it all. A lot of us, we are lucky. We came home. The reason we came home was because of them, the ones who did not come home. I think it is really important that we honor them,” Manley said.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, there will be a Memorial Day concert at the VFW Post.
