Sergeant Whittamore honors veterans with kid boot camp
All November, veterans of all branches have been honored.
However, one veteran wants to continue his service by educating kids on the importance of their sacrifice.
He does this by putting them through a mini boot camp.
For 15 years, Sergeant Chip Whittamore holds his boot camp at Holy Trinity Lutheran school.
Whittamore spent 6 years in the United States Army and served in the 75th Ranger Regiment.
Although he’s medically retired, he instills respect, leadership, and courage in his two kids and their peers at Holy Trinity.
Kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd and 6th-grade kids learned how to bear crawl, walk a balance beam and toss a bean bag grenade.
They also learned how to maneuver a minefield of hula hoops and sang religious cadences as well.
For Whittamore, teaching kids the importance of knowing where our freedom comes from is what his camp is all about.
Whittamore also started the camp because he misses being in the service.
He brought the camp to Holy Trinity after his mother began working at the school.
His wife Jennifer now works at the school as well and has done so for seven years.
Through his camp, he hopes to inspire the students to be whoever they choose to be but always honor the foundation veterans have laid.
