Senior centers in the BRADD area to re-open early July
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Barren River Area Development District is preparing to re-open a vital resource. One relating to the older population.
The senior centers in the BRADD area will start to reopen starting July 1. This process will continue until July 6, as all senior centers in that area are expected to be up and running by then.
These senior centers operated by Community Action of Southern Kentucky will be back to normal operations, and the services will vary between each center depending on size.
Representatives from both BRADD and Community Action say it’s crucial to give the older population some form of social interaction, as they missed most of it during the early part of covid.
“For some of them, the social interaction was just too much, it was harder on them. We’re looking forward to having them all back and doing activities and the fun things we do, feeding them, and it’s going to be a wonderful blessing,” Said Community Action center program director Kathy Fugate.
“It’s been a struggle, and I think that the elderly population has taken the brunt of this during the covid pandemic. It hits our seniors the hardest, they’re one of the more vulnerable groups,” added BRADD associate director of aging services Alecia Johnson.
