Sen. Paul: Trump vindicated by findings of Mueller probe

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Republican Sen. Rand Paul says President Donald Trump was vindicated by the findings in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, but Kentucky’s lone Democratic congressman says the summary of Mueller’s probe “leaves many questions unanswered.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Mueller’s conclusions confirmed Trump’s account that there was no effort by Trump’s campaign to conspire or coordinate with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election.

But McConnell warns that Russia’s ongoing efforts to interfere “with our democracy are dangerous and disturbing.” The Kentucky Republican says he welcomes Mueller’s contributions to better understanding Russian activities.

Paul told reporters in Louisville on Monday that the nearly two-year investigation was a “colossal waste of money and time.”

Democratic U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth said Attorney General William Barr’s summary of Mueller’s conclusions “leaves many questions unanswered.”
