Sen. Max Wise and Rep. Shawn McPherson visit The Center for Courageous Kids

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. — The Center for Courageous Kids welcomed Sen. Max Wise and Rep. Shawn McPherson for a tour and look at its summer programs.
According to a release by CCK, the legislators toured the 168-acre camp, met staff and witnessed campers participating in a wide range of inclusive activities for children with serious illnesses or disabilities.
In addition, they met with Darren Dannelly, CCK president and CEO, to learn more about the organization’s statewide impact and future goals.
Wise reportedly emphasized the importance of CCK to Allen County and families across Kentucky and beyond.
“This is a true gem for this entire region—not just in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, but nationwide and internationally. To see children experiencing normalcy, forming lifelong friendships, and receiving high-quality care—it’s incredible,” he said. “As legislators, it’s our job to help tell the story of CCK and to help more people understand what’s happening here.”
McPherson, a longtime supporter of the organization whose own daughter attended CCK as a teen, echoed those sentiments.
“This is the only place in Kentucky—and nearly the country—that offers this level of care, inclusion, and support,” McPherson said. “You’re not just serving Allen County. You’re serving the entire southeastern region and setting a model for others to follow.”
He also spoke to CCK’s alignment with Kentucky’s values around family support, health and education.
McPherson said, “It’s so important for these children to know they have value, to see what they’re capable of, and to realize they can do things they never thought possible.”
