Season of Giving for Salvation Army
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s a common sound this time of year: bells ringing near the entrance to a local store. And there’s usually a red kettle beside the person ringing the bell.
Captain Johnny Horton, Corps Officer with The Salvation Army says the red kettles will be out through December 24 — Christmas Eve — to accept donations. According to Horton, all the money collected stays local to benefit those in need in the area.
The kettles have been around for quite a while – more than 100 years – according to Captain Horton. He said even though snow flying through the air might put you in the spirit to shop for gifts, he says rainy or snowy weather actually causes people to go inside stores faster and pass by the kettle.
So, Horton said, it’s important to give when the weather is nice. And, you can always make a donation online at salvationarmyusa.org.
