Scouts enjoy the first Girl Scout day camp since COVID
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Girl Scout day camp is back in South Central Kentucky for the first time since the pandemic shut down everything in Kentucky.
This week over 100 girl scouts from the ages of five to 17 are at the Houchens Girl Scout Camp. They’re learning skills like how to build a fire pit, put together a tent, make dinner and more.
Thursday night they have the chance to sleepover in tents and cook dinner over the campfire.
The purpose of the camp is to teach young girls useful skills and instill confidence in them as they grow up.
“We were afraid it wasn’t gonna happen but once things finally started lifting it’s like yes now we can get back to camp. And that’s our theme for this year is ‘together again,’” said Camp Director Regina Pedigo.
The next camp will be next week. The day camps are every day 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus the optional Thursday sleepover.
