Scottsville Train Depot receives donation from Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – The Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation made a huge donation to the Allen County Historical Society for the preservation of a historic landmark in the community.
The Scottsville Train Depot was built back in 1886, and for 90 years was a huge part of the Louisville and Nashville, or L&N Railroad system.
The depot closed back in 1975, but the Historical Society has been working over the last few years to restore the structure to its former glory.
Staff say this donation from the Laura Goad Turner Foundation is going to make a huge difference in moving this project along.
“It gives us the boost that we needed. We had tried to get federal and state grants, which we got, but after COVID, that was not adequate dollars to do what we wanted to do. So we started searching private foundations, and once again, the Laura Goad Turner Foundation stepped up,” Dr. Mark Huntsman with the Allen County Historical Society says.
He adds the $375,000 donation will fund about 98% of the project, but they still need help to finish out the final $60,000 they need.
