Scleroderma Awareness and Protecting Your Skin
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – June is Scleroderma Awareness Month and knowing the warning signs of this rare auto-immune disease can mean the difference between more serious treatment and a simple doctors visit. Warning sings would be if your skin becomes rigid and tough, and moving your fingers becomes difficult or impossible. Changing of the color of the skin can also occur. Scleroderma does not discriminate and can impact anyone of any age and any race.
However, with temperatures reaching into the mid to high 90’s this weekend, protecting your skin from the sun in very important. Doctor Robert Skaggs from the Kentucky Skin Care Center says that you should wear sunscreen of at least 30 SPF and to apply regularly. A good hat can also make a big difference. Baseball caps do not cover as much of the face and neck as a bucket hat might. Protecting your skin during extreme heat can make a huge difference in preventing skin cancer
