SCK Launch Experience opens doors for eighth graders across Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Thousands of eighth graders from all over the Commonwealth gathered for the annual SCK Launch, an event designed to showcase the limitless job opportunities available to them.

Kyle Cassady, assistant superintendent, emphasized the goal of the event, saying, “I hope the eighth graders’ reaction after they get to experience these opportunities would be that they walk away knowing something they didn’t know before they got here. It’s really about sparking some interest.”

Many students were astonished by the variety of jobs presented, recognizing paths they hadn’t considered before.

Jakavion Warfield from Franklin Simpson Middle School expressed his surprise.

He says, “I didn’t know all of this would be here. I thought it would be a couple. I know I have a future ahead of me and not just stuck in one town.”

The wealth of knowledge shared at the SCK Launch provided students with insights that could shape their futures.

Brooklynn Caudill, also from Franklin Simpson Middle School, noted how the event helped guide her aspirations, saying, “It’s very helpful in guiding. You get a really good idea of what you want to do when you’re older. I just want to be successful.”

From opportunities in the police department to careers in mechanics and welding, the jobs offered have the potential to transform the trajectories of these students’ lives.

One student expressed a personal goal, saying, “I want to be a police officer. I’ve been in trouble with the police before, and I want to change it around.”

Overall, the SCK Launch Experience not only educated students about various careers but also inspired them to dream big and explore new possibilities for their futures.
