School holiday shop emphasizes the value of giving

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Students of Rich Pond Elementary won’t be needing to do any last-minute shopping this year.

It’s all because of a program put on by the Rich Pond Elementary Parent Teacher Organization called the Holiday Shop. It’s where students can pick up gifts to wrap, and then take home before break to give to their family.

Students can choose from a variety of gifts and are encouraged to pick out gifts that others may like. The goal is to teach the young students the value of giving.

Both parents and students call the experience rewarding.

“It’s actually really fun whenever I’m giving gifts. It makes me happy,” said Rich Pond Elementary 2nd grader Amelia Baker.

“It’s pretty neat that they’re able to give the students gifts that they may not be able to give their parents or have time to go out and get the gifts themselves. It’s really nice to be able to let the kids do that,” added Amelia’s father Will Baker.

The gift selection included school supplies, ornaments, and household utensils just to name a few.
