School district rolls out virtual national park summer break
PLUM SPRINGS, Ky.-While Covid-19 has put a halt to summer break travel plans, the Warren County School District has rolled out a solution. It’s time for a road trip, this time, a virtual road trip.
The National Park Road Trip is an online portal that allows students to virtually visit some national parks offering a different adventure each day.
“It was a wonderful opportunity for us to be able to provide a resource to allow our students to see different areas of the country,” said Warren County School District chief academic officer and assistant superintendent Melissa Stephanski.
From Hawaii to Alaska, students can explore and learn facts about each location, in addition to taking guided video tours and even check out modeled environments. There are also readings for all grade levels.
“We have reading opportunities for elementary, middle and high school students. It’s for all ages, and I’m sure parents would love to get on here and take a little trip with us,” Stephanski said.
It’s not only Warren County students that participate. Nicole Young from Foundation Christian Academy says she enjoys the program as well.
“I really like the part where I get to see a lot of places. I got to see Alaska and the volcanoes at Hawaii,” Young said.
It gives students the chance to adventure to places they may not have otherwise.
“My favorite was the cave. They’re still discovering new places in it,” Young said.
In a time where it can be hard to find the bright side, this was a way to give students and parents a chance to make fond memories and learn while doing it.
“We want to make it as fun as possible. Going on a trip and learning while you go, it’s a win-win,” Stephanski said.
