Scammers impersonate local football team from Warren County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Scammers are continuing to make their presence felt in the community, and with the high school football season set to get underway this week, scammers are deciding to make that their next area of focus.

Scammers are calling pretending to be with the Warren Central Dragons football team, trying to sell local businesses ad space for the upcoming season.

News 40 spoke to Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower, who says this is just another attempt by scammers to try and gain as much as they can from people.

“They know school’s getting ready to start back and it legitimizes that… and people believe that somebody is doing fundraising, so they just look, and it’s easy for them to look and see the regular repetition of when schools and or communities are doing fundraising campaigns,” he says.

Hightower also says just like everything you may think is a scam, whether it’s this one or any claiming to be from his office, always make sure you verify whether or not they’re real.
