Scam targets families of incarcerated individuals, says jailer Harmon

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Regional Jail is alerting the public to a scam.

Warren County Jailer Stephen Harmon says the jail was contacted by the Bowling Green Police Department regarding a scam that targets families of incarcerated individuals.

Harmon says scammers call victims and pose as members of the Warren County Regional Jail.

The scammers advise families of bond amounts and say they can accept money by digital platforms like Chime or CashApp.

Harmon says the jail does not contact families and does not accept bond payments other than in person with proper identification.

Bonds are payable with cash or money order and are not accepted by telephone.

Harmon says victims of the scam should call local law enforcement immediately.
