Salvation Army Center of Hope acts as warming shelter

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One local nonprofit continues to offer protection from the cold as winter weather conditions persist throughout the area.
Capt. Monica Horton, Salvation Army of Bowling Green, says when temperatures drop below freezing, the Center of Hope serves as a warming station for those who need to escape the weather.
The center opens daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until Room in the Inn begins its registration at 5 p.m., Horton says.
Horton says Room in the Inn will register guests for overnight stays at local churches. However, the Center of Hope’s dining room opens up to take the overflow from Room in the Inn or other guests that need to get out of the cold.
She says the center has had “as many as 52 guests stay overnight to keep from freezing to death.”
Horton emphasizes they offer this service year round.
The Center of Hope can be found at 400 W. Main Ave. in Bowling Green.
