Salvation Army Bowling Green provides 2025 recap
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – All year long, the Salvation Army accepts donations, provides shelter to the homeless and gives resources to people in need.
When the holidays roll around, it focuses on making sure everyone is cared for.
Monica Horton, a captain with Salvation Army Bowling Green, says, “It is such a good season where we feel encouraged, and we feel full in our hearts about the work that we’re doing and so just spreading the love of Jesus and letting people know that they are valued, they are worthy, and they are not forgotten.”
One necessity is a warm location to stay overnight, especially when it’s below freezing.
She says, “What we consider a white flag is that we just open our doors. And just like when people can just surrender and come in, army, I think it’s more like, this is the reason why we do what we do. It’s for those in need.”
The support for people in the community doesn’t stop after the holidays. Once temperatures drop, the need becomes greater.
Monica also says, “It’s when there’s gaps of services or when there’s a lack of resources or when there’s no place for somebody to go when it’s cold outside and room at the inn, it’s filled, and it’s just doing the best we can with the resources that we have.”
The Salvation Army needs more support for the white flag program. If you or your local church would like to participate in serving the community, reach out to the Salvation Army or Room in the Inn.
