Salvation Army BG Angel Tree needs you NOW, almost 200 kids not provided for

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel Tree provides Christmas presents for families in need every year, but this season, the Bowling Green chapter severely needs your help to fill their quota.

Angel Tree present drop-offs were supposed to wrap up today at Greenwood Mall, but with nearly 200 children still not selected, the organization is now pushing the drop-off date back.

“The need is greater, but the supplies and the resources are less,” said Salvation Army Bowling Green Captain Monica Horton. “We’re really just asking if people can bring their angels back. And also, if anybody’s out shopping this weekend that they could just take a couple of extra angels this year for those that can help.”

Salvation Army Bowling Green Advisory Board Member Barbie Tatman added, “I think it’s something that in our hearts our sadness if kids didn’t get these gifts, would just be overwhelming.”

Salvation Army Bowling Green says many of their Christmas angels still need basic necessities like coats, gloves, and warm clothes under their tree, along with toys.

Tatman explained, “In the past, we would have resources that were maybe leftover from the previous year that we would use to fill bags, but last year with the tornado, we had a huge influx in need of gifts. So, we completely got rid of everything that we had that might have been leftover that could be used for this year.”

To select a child off the Angel Tree, visit the Salvation Army Bowling Green website, or visit Monica and Barbie at the Greenwood Mall this weekend.

Hotron said, “Those bags, when [parents] come and pick up the gifts, help to fill them with pride that they are taking care of their own children and that they’re able to provide them hope and a smile on Christmas morning. That’s why we do what we do.”

Tatman shared from her 12 years with Salvation army, “The joy that you will feel for that if you choose to fill a bag for a child, that joy will go on forever and ever.”
