Safety improvements being studied at Woodburn intersection

WOODBURN, Ky. – A traffic study is looking at possible safety improvements for the intersection of U.S. 31-W and Woodburn Allen Springs Road in Woodburn, Kentucky.

The intersection in Warren County has seen several vehicle wrecks, including one fatal collision just last month.

Transportation officials say this particular stretch of roadway is in the fastest growing region of the county, which can bring traffic issues.

The goal of the study is to brainstorm safety improvement options for this intersection, including short-term and long-term fixes. The solution will also be considered with funding in mind.

“KYTC values ‘safety first,’ and the District 3 team has actively pursued opportunities to enhance safety at the intersection of U.S. 31-W and KY 240,” Kentucky Transportation Cabinet chief district 3 engineer Joe Plunk said.

Plunk said the district and Highway Safety Improvement Program met in December to start the study.

He said they recognize the “traffic signals on rural, high-speed roadways are not effective at improving safety.”
