Russellville Rural Fire Department participates in stair climb to honor those lost during 9/11
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – We’re remembering the lives lost 23 years ago as a terrorist attack took the lives of 2,977 victims.
The Russellville Rural Fire Department honored those victims by participating in a stair climb in Nashville at the Tennessee Tower.
A group of firefighters took part in this climb. We asked 2 of them how it feels to represent their department, while remembering that fateful day 23 years ago.
“We had to go up four times the equivalent of 110 floors. We went up in a group of five, and we did pretty good. I thought we set a good pace and was out there for a good cause. I mean, it makes me feel good about myself when you get to go out there and honor the people that passed away especially the 343, and to make sure that everybody knows they don’t get forgotten,” Cameron Ashby says.
“It was probably the greatest thing I’ve experienced. I don’t have any ties with anybody that was a part of 9/11, but just to be there with all the people there and sweat… it hurt. But we did it for a good cause… and you don’t want them to be forgotten,” Ethan Johnson says.
