Russellville interim superintendent fills role during pandemic

RUSSELLVILLE Ky.- A superintendent who has been retired for three years has stepped back in his role temporarily, during a pandemic.

Russellville Independent School District Interim Superintendent Leon Smith is filling in because former superintendent Bart Flener is now the executive director of the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative.

Smith retired as the district’s superintendent in 2017.

Now that he’s filling in, he says the workload is heavy, especially with the district’s reopening plan.

Even though times are tough, Smith said he knows he and his staff will pull through.

Smith will be filling in as interim superintendent until a new superintendent is selected.
