Russellville Independent Schools safely welcome students back after unexpected brief closure
RUSSELLVILLE Ky.-After an unexpected break, staff at a local school district are thrilled to once again be able to safely educate their students in person.
The Russellville Independent School District welcomed students back Tuesday, after superintendent Larry Bengley sent out an announcement that the district would not have class from August 30 through September 3.
This was a big day for district and school staff, as they awaited the day students would return, once again bringing life to the school buildings and hallways. The closure came from difficulties in staffing buildings to provide services the kids need. This was not caused by health issues with students.
One teacher at R.E.Stevenson elementary says she’s thankful to the district for placing everyone’s health and safety as the top priority.
“It’s nice to know that our superintendent and our school board took notice for us enough and took our health into consideration so that we could have this time to recoup. We’re better off when we’re in the classroom with our students. It’s better for us to be there. We have a relationship with them. We’re the experts on the content, so if we’re not there, it’s a little hard,” said R.E. Stevenson Elementary School teacher Katie Kisselbaugh.
