Russellville family displaced by house fire

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – On Sunday evening, a Russellville family was displaced from their home due to a house fire.

The fire, which spread rapidly from from the floor to the attic, started after a loud bang was heard and smoke was visible thereafter.

Homeowner Maurice Gordon says he tried to re-enter the home after initially evacuating but was almost immediately forced back outside due to the thick smoke that quickly inundated the home.

“Well, we just, I went out once we seen the fire, we got up on the house, and we couldn’t get to it, then called 911. And really wasn’t nothing we could do but wait until they get there. We, I tried to go in the house. After about three steps in, and I was overwhelmed with smoke and eyes burning, I couldn’t breathe, so I had to come back out,” Maurice Gordon said.

Kaprice Gordon, Maurice’s daughter, says they’ve lost many cherished family possessions, including Christmas presents from this year.

While the Gordons have not heard a final number on what the damage will cost, its estimated to be around $40,000.
