Russell Sims opens for one last day before fall
BOWLING GREEN Ky.-For those off work Monday, Labor Day is often pool day. The Russell Sims Aquatic Center in Bowling Green opened its doors for swimmers for the last time this summer before closing up for fall and winter. Visitors at the water park were looking to make a splash on the last day.
“I feel pretty good, it’s pretty amazing to just get out of the house for a while and just come out here and enjoy the day man,” said Jacob Cowles, a visitor at the water park.
While the parents were out there having a fun time with the kids, the lifeguards were hard at work making sure fun times were also safe times.
“It was a great summer, I loved being over here. It’s sad to see winter and fall finally coming, but it was still good,” said lifeguard Sandro Kusmic.
The off time gives the staff and lifeguards a chance to brush up on their skills to keep everything afloat during the summer.
“Every year before we come over, we do have to do a bunch of training. Some of us have to get re-certified. We have cleaning every year before the park closes and when it opens,” Kusmic said.
