Run The Maple 5K search for a cure to TFP

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This weekend a very important race is taking place, established by a family in a race of their own against time to find a cure to an extremely rare disease their child has.

The Burch family and their son Sawyer created the Run The Maple 5K to help raise money to find a cure to Tri-Functional Protein Deficiency, or TFP.

Worldwide, there are only about 100 known cases of this disease.

Katie Burch, Sawyer’s mother, says that the support from the Bowling Green community has been tremendous over the years as they have show up for support again and again.

“It we’ve just kind of grown it organically. God has really just worked his way through this whole story. And you know, I meet one person that is like, ‘oh, do you know so-and-so? Let me introduce you.’ And then and just I’ve just learned to just talk about it. You know, don’t try and hide it and just talk about it. And it’s been amazing the connections that I’ve been able to make with people, and it’s just meant the world that I feel like Bowling Green has really rallied around us and helping us get to where we’re trying to go, and even more so,” Burch said.

So far, they have been able to raise $425,000 for research into TFP. The race is going on Sept. 27, and there is still room to sign up and get involved. If you would like to learn more, you can click here.
