Road work on U.S. 31-W and KY 234 in Bowling Green to begin Tuesday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Tuesday, August 18, road crews are expected to begin work on the traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 31-W Bypass and KY 234 (Fairview Avenue) in Bowling Green.
In an effort to make the intersection safer and more efficient, the traffic signal will undergo an operational change and re-striping will be done. According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, these changes are a short-term solution. A longer-term plan to widen to roadway in that area is making its way through the planning process, but is still years away.
The planned change will give the northbound and southbound approaches of U.S. 31-W its own independent signal phase. When the northbound direction of U.S. 31-W has a green signal, the southbound direction will all be on a red signal. When the southbound direction of U.S. 31-W has a green signal, the northbound direction will all be on a red signal. The approaches from KY 234 will be unchanged.
The lane movements in the southbound direction will also change. The middle lane at the intersection in the southbound direction will become a straight through or left turn lane. The other two lanes will remain the same.
As always, road work is weather dependent and could be delayed by inclement conditions. Motorists are advised to take caution in the area while work is being performed and afterward when the changes are implemented.
