Road work impacts Alvaton drivers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has temporarily closed the dual left-turn lanes from U.S. 231 Scottsville Road onto KY 9007 Natcher Expressway in the Alvaton area of Warren County as part of a surface improvement project.

The project began Monday morning, February 1,6 and is expected to last approximately seven days, weather permitting. During this time, left turns from U.S. 231 onto KY 9007 are prohibited, and the area will be reduced to one lane, leading to traffic queues and delays, especially during peak morning travel times.

According to transportation officials, the current asphalt in the turn lanes has experienced severe rutting due to frequent use by large commercial vehicles, including semi-trucks accessing Interstate 65 and I-165. Crews are replacing the asphalt with concrete, which officials say is more durable, longer-lasting, and better suited to handle heavy truck traffic. Concrete also allows for easier long-term maintenance and repairs if needed.

The improvement is funded through state maintenance funds.

Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, stay alert in the construction zone, and allow extra travel time while the work is underway. The full project is expected to take about a month to complete, though the turn lane closures should only last about a week.
