Richardsville resident catches rattlesnake in yard
RICHARDSVILLE, Ky. – A Richardsville resident got a surprise while working on a project in his yard.
“Me and Muttley was down there working on my little building and pouring concrete, baling some papers, and we was finished up for then, and we just headed back to the truck… I noticed the odd pattern in the leaves and all their leaves are brown, real dark brown. And it looked odd. So I look and I thought, is that what I think I’m looking at? And then I heard a little rattle, chime like rattling. Well, then I knew,” Robert Basham says.
He found a timber rattlesnake, but that’s not the only critter he’s found on his property.
“I noticed a nest up toward my mailbox, and the tree is real distinctive. One night me and Muttley was back here, and there was three that got in a truck, and I thought, that’s kind of odd. I finally got them out after the light went out and windows rolled down. So the next morning I found that tree where they’d come in and took it over too,” Basham says.
The snake now resides in his storage unit, where he has borax powder on it to dry the skin. Robert has one message in the unlikely scenario that you see a snake.
“Just be safe out there. That’s all I can say, really. Keep your eye open… your eyes open,” he says.
