Revolution 91.7 hosts Mayhem Music Festival at SOKY Center

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the first time in nearly four years, Mayhem Music Festival is back, spotlighting local talent and supporting WKU’s Revolution 91.7.

It’s been in the works for a while now, but it’s all worth it for the team seeing the turnout they’ve had.

“We started planning this in September, November and it’s just been awesome. It was a little difficult at first just because still bringing the radio station actually back with it. But we’re very excited with how things are turning out. It was definitely a process trying to explain to everyone ‘We’re back. We’re better than ever. We’re here. We’re ready to party. We’re ready to turn up with everyone.’ So now that everyone knows, we’re very excited and we’re hoping that this continues on over the next few years as well,” station manager Rachel Comella says.

At Mayhem, they like to live by three words: Local. Live. Loud. At SOKY Center, you could hear the third word. But the first one is what’s most important: local. That’s because all local bands are taking part in this year’s festival.

“The band that you’re hearing right now is called Nolia Noon out of Louisville, and we are here to showcase a lot of local and regional talent. We want to showcase the Bowling Green community,” Comella says.

Seeing the student body and community come together to enjoy some live music is exactly what it’s about for the students, and even though they may go their separate ways after college, they’ll always remember they were the ones who brought the Mayhem back to Bowling Green.

“Coming in, I didn’t know too much about Revolution… and so it was a concern for me and a big goal for mine to get more students and more of the community involved, because we have been on that two year hiatus… and to see as many people that came out to support that did and the partners that we’ve had, it’s been an amazing experience, and it’s really been a growing opportunity for me, both professionally and personally,” PR director Sofia DiMercurio says.

“I love radio, I love live music… and seeing all these other people show up to support because they love it. They love us, they love live music. It’s just really special, especially with graduating in May, being able to proudly say that I helped put this together, it’s just been awesome,” Comella adds.
