Resources for Domestic Violence Awareness Month
BOWLING GREEN,KY.- October is Officially Domestic Violence Awareness month, and it recognizes domestic violence victims and survivors. Governor Andy Beshear recognized this month at a state level and signs a declaration to ensure that fewer people are experiencing domestic violence conditions.
Governor Beshear expresses his ultimate goal for domestic violence victims that will become survivors. He says, “I’m going to keep fighting for the inches that become the feet, the become the miles of progress until we build that goal of a safe Kentucky for absolutely everyone.”
This declaration is giving trusted resources in our community a push to provide safe and secure spaces for victims that may not know what to do, or who to run to.
The executive director of BRASS Inc. Tori Henninger , shares the importance of having these resources. Tori says, “Everyone who is working at BRASS holds on to the hope to make their corner of the world a little bit better, to be able to recognize that we get to be the helpers, that we get to be the people that are trusted in our community, and walk with a person in their journey.”
BRASS Inc. director emphasizes the point that domestic violence does not just affect one person. It can also affect families and so much more.
“Domestic violence impacts societies, and societies should respond. It is meant to be engaged and brought forth into the light of conversation so that victims don’t have to feel hidden.”
