Report shows last year’s domestic violence numbers in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WLKY) In a first-of-its-kind report, the state of domestic violence in Kentucky is now available to the public.
New legislation requires data to be compiled from Kentucky agencies like state police and the administrative office of the courts.
The findings revealed that statewide last year, there were 27 domestic violence-related homicides, over a dozen cases of stalking, 16,000 emergency protective orders filed and more than 8,800 arrests for domestic violence incidents.
The numbers are alarming to anti-violence advocates across the state, but they say it is likely higher due to domestic violence cases being inherently underreported.
Not only that, but Black and Laninx women are still disproportionately represented in these fatalities.
The report also suggests a major need for more federal funding for anti-violence programs that offer victim support.
