Replacing headstones in Fairview Cemetery after storms

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Fairview Cemetery experienced some damage as a result of the storms that passed through the area on Sunday.

Trees toppled over, branches broke, and as a result, some headstones unfortunately were damaged or broken.

For many families, a headstone is a way for them to remember and honor their loved ones who have passed away. So when a storm like the one we saw on Sunday blows through, what can you do to replace a loved one’s headstone that may have been damaged. We spoke to Cathy Maroney, the division manager at Fairview Cemetery, who said that while the cemetery is not responsible for replacing the stone, there are different options you have.

Sometimes, homeowners insurance can cover a damaged headstone or grave. Another option is out of pocket to replace the stone, or possibly fix it yourself if the damage is light enough. Maroney tells us that they are working on getting in contact with the families of those with damaged headstones and are getting with the monument companies to try and replace damaged or broken headstones.
