Remembering the award-winning radio host Don Neagle
LOGAN COUNTY, Ky.- The voice of award-winning radio host Don Neagle permeated the airwaves in Logan County for 60 years. Neagle’s last radio show on WRUS was earlier this month on Tuesday, Feb. 6. just days before he passed at the age of 86.
Myla Porter, WRUS on-air announcer, shares who he was to her and the community. Myla says, “He was the newsman’s newsman. You know, like older folks like me grew up with, you know, Walter Cronkite and those news guys back in the day. And that’s kind of what Don Neagle was to radio.”
The past Rotary President, Tom Harned, shares how Don always had the interest of his listeners in mind, talked about what they wanted to hear, and delivered the news that affected them every day. Tom says, “His interest paralleled the community, so he was in sync with Logan County and South Central Kentucky all the way.”
Don didn’t just reach Russellville through the radio. He connected with his community at Roy’s Barbecue daily, and the people in the community say, “If you did hear from Don, it didn’t happen here in Logan County.”
His ability to relate to those he encountered over the airwaves and in person came naturally during his decades-long impact on the community. The community describes him as a wealth of knowledge, and they will never forget him.
