Remembering disasters by helping victims
LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – Finding the true meaning of the holiday season can be difficult, especially after a natural disaster. That’s why Logan County Search and Rescue wanted to pay it forward.
Bowling Green faced tremendous devastation during the December 2021 tornadoes. Many homes and businesses were destroyed, and countless lives were taken.
As Wednesday marks the third anniversary, many are reminded about the outgoing support from our communities around the nation.
Hurricane Helene hit Eastern Tennessee and parts of North Carolina just a few months ago. The Logan County Search and Rescue team knew they wanted to help.
Various local churches and organizations pitched in and began collecting donations to deliver to impacted areas. President of the team, Terry Cole, says Logan County is a selfless community. He adds that people in the area want to “pass on” generosity.
While efforts did included needed items, such as clothes, food, and shelter supplies, the Logan County team also wanted to spread Christmas cheer.
Jim Marney, Logan County team member, says he empathizes what these families and children are experiencing. Marney recalls how some of his childhood Christmases where his family “didn’t have anything.” He says giving back and seeing “these kids so happy” was heartwarming.
