Release: State police arrest former trooper illegal firearm incident

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police Post 3 was contacted about a trooper’s involvement with a possible stolen and illegal firearm in Barren County.

An internal investigation was opened which led to the resignation of Trooper Ben Hubbard.

When a trooper went to Hubbard’s Barren County home to secure KSP property following his resignation, the trooper found a sawed off shotgun with the serial number filed off of it in a suitcase in a closet, according to Hubbard’s arrest citation. Hubbard said the firearm came from the vehicle of someone he arrested on a DUI.

Hubbard was arrested and charged Monday with first-degree official misconduct, possession of a defaced firearm, tampering with physical evidence and receiving stolen property (firearm), according to his arrest citation.

He was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by KSP.  No further information is currently available for release.
